    JOB SUMMARY:

    Main Purpose of Position:

    The Senior Commercial Project Manager is responsible for overseeing and driving the commercial success of complex projects from inception through to completion. This role ensures effective planning, execution, and financial control across all project phases, while aligning commercial strategies with organizational objectives. Acting as a key liaison between internal stakeholders, clients, and external partners, the Senior Commercial Project Manager safeguards profitability, manages risk, ensures contractual compliance, and drives value creation throughout the project lifecycle.

    PERFORMANCE STANDARDS 

    Commercial Deal Structuring & Negotiation

     

    • Successfully negotiate and close commercial agreements within defined timelines and budget parameters.
    • Achieve favourable terms in at least 90% of vendor contracts, with clear value-add or cost-saving benefits.
    • Ensure all deals align with internal approval processes and comply with corporate governance.

    Vendor Relationship & Contract Management 

    • Maintain active engagement and communication with key vendors; conduct formal performance reviews quarterly.
    • Ensure 100% compliance with all contract obligations, SLAs, and renewal timelines.
    • Resolve vendor issues quickly, ensuring minimal impact to project timelines or quality.

    Project Financial Management

    • Maintain project budgets within a ±5% variance and ensure accurate monthly financial forecasts.
    • Ensure timely and accurate revenue recognition in compliance with accounting standards.
    • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives delivering a minimum 5% improvement in project margins annually.

    Cross-functional Project Leadership

    • Lead cross-brand projects with documented responsibilities and milestone tracking; achieve 95% on-time delivery rate.
    • Conduct weekly project status updates with relevant stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment.
    • Ensure zero critical project delays due to internal misalignment or miscommunication.

    Market & Commercial Risk Analysis

    • Conduct semi-annual market reviews and deliver insights to leadership with actionable recommendations.
    • Identify and address at least 90% of potential commercial risks in vendor engagements before contract signature.
    • Develop and maintain a risk register for all major projects, updated monthly.

    • Project Management – Proven ability to manage complex, cross-functional projects with multiple stakeholders and tight deadlines.
    • Analytical Thinking – Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and develop actionable strategies.
    • Communication & Presentation – Excellent written and verbal communication, capable of presenting to senior stakeholders and vendor executives.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Internal training associated with competencies:

    • Completion of the Learning Portal /relevant Certificates – Sales and Operations and technical
    • Completion of relevant behavioural interventions to assist identified competency in role

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Engineering, Project Management, Finance, Information Technology, or a related field.
    • 8–10 years of relevant experience in commercial project management, with at least 3–5 years in a senior or strategic role managing vendor contracts or large-scale networking/telecom projects.
    • Proven track record in negotiating large commercial deals and managing complex vendor relationships.
    • Project Management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent) is strongly preferred.
    • Knowledge of South African commercial law, procurement regulations, and B-BBEE compliance requirements.
    • Experience working within or with telecommunications, networking infrastructure, or ICT vendors is a strong advantage.

     

    Office Requirements:

    • Office-based working environment.
    • Semi-formal dress code.
    • Working hours are from: 08:00 – 17:00.
    • Excellent international business language skills (English), both written and verbal.
    • Reliable transport to and from the office.

     

    Note:

    • This is a permanent position subject to a three-month probationary period.
    • You will be required to perform such duties as reasonably required by the business.
